A Celebration of THE METERS

The Meters
are, along with James Brown, the originators of funk music.

Formed in New Orleans in 1965 by Zigaboo Modeliste (drums), George Porter Jr. (bass), Leo Nocentelli (guitar) and Art Neville (keyboards), The Meters released eight albums between 1969-1977.

Along with recording their own material, The Meters played as back up for an array of artists such as Dr. John, Lee Dorsey, Robert Palmer, Ernie K. Doe, Labelle, Stevie Wonder and were also the house band for Allen Toussaint's label Sansu Enterprises.

The Meters
songs such as 'Cissy Strut'. 'Just Kissed My Baby', 'Funky Miracle', 'Tippi Toes', 'Look-ka Py Py' and more have been covered or sampled by artists such as the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Trombone Shorty, Jaco Pastorius, Herbie Mann, Joe Cocker, Primus, The Beatie Boys, and Ultramagnetic MCs.

To celebrate the 55th anniversary of Struttin', the third studio LP by The Meters an all-star group featuring James Taylor (JTQ), Leigh Gracie (Speedometer), Pat Illingworth (JTQ) and Dan Drury (The Filthy Six) will perform classics and fan favourites from The Meters back catalogue on the exact date 55 years to the day that Struttin' was released (20th June 1970)
